We collect an email address if you subscribe to the newsletter, whatever you type into the contact form, and anonymous analytics about which pages get read. We do not sell any of it, we do not buy data about you, and there is no advertising tracking on this site. You can leave at any time and take your data with you.
Newsletter subscription. If you subscribe to the Ledger, we collect your email address. It is processed and stored by beehiiv, which runs the newsletter. beehiiv records standard email engagement data such as whether a message was opened and which links were clicked. We use it to send you one case study a week and nothing else.
Contact form. If you write to us, we collect the name, email address, and message you provide, plus the reason you selected. Submissions are processed by Netlify, which hosts this site, and are used only to reply to you.
Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4 to measure which pages are read and roughly where readers come from. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and processes data on Google's infrastructure, which may include transfer to the United States. We use it in aggregate: we look at page popularity and traffic sources, not at individuals. Google's own explanation of how it handles this data is here.
Server logs. Netlify records standard request information, including IP address, for security and to keep the site online.
The only cookies this site sets are the Google Analytics ones described above. There are no advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, and no third-party trackers beyond the services named on this page. If you would rather not be measured at all, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on, and most browsers can block analytics cookies directly. Nothing on this site breaks if you do.
We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share your email address with sponsors: a sponsor buys a slot in an issue, not a list. We do not run advertising networks. We do not create profiles about individual readers. If we ever change any of that, this page changes first and the newsletter says so plainly.
Every newsletter carries a one-click unsubscribe, which is immediate and permanent. Beyond that, you can ask us to tell you what data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it entirely, and we will do it. Depending on where you live, under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, or the CCPA, you may have a legal right to those things; we extend them to everyone regardless. Use the contact form and say what you want done.
This site publishes figures about named business owners. Those figures are drawn entirely from material those owners have already made public, in interviews, podcasts, press coverage, or their own published materials, and every entry links its sources. If you are one of those owners and something we published is wrong, tell us and we will correct it in public and note what changed. If you believe we have published something about you that should not be public at all, write to us and we will discuss it; we will not pretend a sourced, accurate figure is private, but we will always correct an inaccurate one.
